05.12.2019 at CAU: Workshop “A shared digital future. New Collaborations between Germany and Silicon Valley”

Beitrag von MGerken »

In which way will digital technologies like artificial intelligence change main areas of life like work or medicine? How do we want to handle our data? What kind of cooperations between Silicon Valley and Germany are possible here? A group of students and doctoral candidates of Kiel University took part in the German-American Conference "Transatlantic Sync. Germany & Silicon Valley: Shaping a shared digital future" that took place in October 2019 in the Silicon Valley. There they discussed with digital movers from business, academia, and politics about our digital future, the impact of technological innovations on business and society and new opportunities for collaborations between the State of Schleswig-Holstein and the region of San Francisco.

After their return to Kiel the conference participants wanted to discuss their insights with representatives of politics, business and start-ups of Schleswig-Holstein and everybody interested. Thus, we carried out the workshop “A shared digital future. New Collaborations between Germany and Silicon Valley” at Kiel University on December 5th, 2019. The event was hosted by Kiel University and the non-profit organization The Bay Areas.

Prof. Dr. Olaf Landsiedel, Department of Computer Science, Kiel University, gave a keynote "What is artificial intelligence?". Subsequently, Transatlantic Sync conference participants discussed these topics at six different stations:
• AI in medicine
• AI and future of work
• Digital human rights
• Digital surveillance
• Start-up mindset
• Transatlantic interaction

In the attached brochure, a summary of the workshop is given.
